EPIC program grant - 2003 to present
Did you know?
49 active nuclear-armed Minuteman III missiles are located in unmanned underground silos on the plains of northeastern Colorado.
150 armed nuclear missiles are commanded from F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The missiles are situated in NE Colorado, SE Wyoming, and SW Nebraska.
Each land-launched Minuteman missile has a destructive power 10 to 20 times that of the Hiroshima bomb.
Missiles in Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming remain on very high alert and can be launched within minutes on orders from the President.
The United States is the undisputed world leader in weapons of mass destruction. We have one-half of all the nuclear weapons in the world---enough firepower to kill everyone and destroy life on the planet many times over.
The United States has withdrawn from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty in order to resume nuclear weapon development unhindered.
The United States now spends more each year on nuclear weapons programs than it did during the Cold War.
To help resist the evil of nuclear weaponry and the mindset of "deterrence" through the threat of annihilation, EPIC is supporting the Boulder-based Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center (RMPJC) in their work of educating the public and empowering people to confront our nation's deep involvement with weapons of mass destruction.

In 2003 and 2004 the RMPJC helped organize "Adopt-a-Missile Silo" protests in Colorado. Peace groups from around the state each "adopted" one of the missile silos. Several hundred people dispersed themselves to stand vigil at the 49 missile silos located in northeastern Colorado. The groups (including a number of EPIC members and supporters) staged symbolic protests, sang, engaged in drama, prayed, and stood in silent opposition at these ominous locales. The small groups demonstrating at each silo then converged at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley to debrief and enjoy music, skits and talks. The objective was to inform the people of Colorado that these 49 armed nuclear Minuteman III missiles are located in their state ready to be launched. There was a police and military presence throughout the event, but all was peaceful, and there were no incidents.
Nuclear weapons pose an almost incomprehensible threat to life on earth. EPIC's support of groups who non-violently resist the development and deployment of such weapons is an important part of our witness.
